Yeast has a strong cell wall, and occupying about 30% of total cell mass, approximately 90% cell

 wall containing mannoprotein consisting outer membrane and glucan consisting inner membran

e, and contained small amount of chitin(1-3%) and lipid(2-5%). Mannoprotein and glucan are

similar in cell wall (Fleet, G. H. 1991).

 

It is derived from several sources, including yeast, bacteria, fungi and cereals, such as oats, barley and rye. Each type of beta glucan has a unique structure in which glucose is linked together in different ways, giving them physical properties.

Beta glucan is a complex carbohydrate or biopolymer of glucose, a simple sugar.

accepted that the beta 1,3-glucan purified from baker's yeast
 
(Saccharomyces cerevisiae) is the most potent anti-infective beta-
 
glucan immunomodulator .
 
Yeast-derived beta 1,3-glucans work, in part, by stimulating the
 
innate anti-fungal immune mechanisms to fight a range of foreign
 
challenges.

The immune system has two components, the innate and the acquired. Beta glucan works to activate both.

 As we all know, the immune system protect us from foreign invaders and helps keep us healthy. What is less known is that beta glucan is scientifically proven to strengthen the immune system.

In the innate immune system, beta glucan binds with the defences against them.

Using the information transmitted from the macrophages, B-cells begin producing antibodies and T-cells, which are specialized cells trained to kill the invaders.

 

The antibodies, working with the innate immune system, bind foreigners into clusters which helps to destroy them.

 The intruders are then engulfed by macrophages. This is how the immune system rids the body of harmful invaders.
