The rose comes originally from Asia Minor, where it is cultivated mostly in Bulgaria, Iran and India. Rosewater was prepared by the Arab physician Avicenna (AD 980-1037) during the middle Ages and the Renaissance, the rose was esteemed as a remedy for depression. The rose is currently little used in herbal medicine, but it is probably time for a re-evaluation of its medicinal benefits.

FUNCTION                              :

The essential oil is extracted from Rosa damascena and has a very wide range of effects and uses. Damask rose oil soothes and harmonizes the mind and helps with depression, anger, grief, fear, nervous tension and stress and at the same time addresses sexuality, self-nurturing, self esteem and dealing with emotional problems. It is most helpful for poor circulation and heart problems, which would include heart palpitations, arrhythmia, as well as high blood pressure and is also used to boost the liver and gall bladder. For the respiratory system, Damask rose oil assists in cases of asthma, coughs and hay fever, and in the digestive system for liver congestion and nausea. Rose otto oil has a clearing, cleansing, regulating and purifying effect on the female sex organs and can be used for regulating and balancing hormones, irregular menstruation, functional infertility, leucorrhoea, menorrhagia, uterine bleeding and other uterine disorders, while having a general toning effect on the uterus. On the skin, it is most effective for moisturizing and hydrating the skin while having a general stimulant and antiseptic action which is good for all skin types, but especially so for dry, mature and irritated skin. It is used to repair broken capillaries, inflammation, as well as skin redness and is useful in eczema and herpes. Rose water can be used for conjunctivitis. The therapeutic properties of damask rose oil are antidepressant, antiphlogistic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, aphrodisiac, astringent, bactericidal, choleretic, cicatrisant, depurative, emmenagogue, haemostatic, hepatic, laxative, nervous system sedative, stomachic and a tonic for the heart, liver, stomach and uterus.


The plant is native to Italy, Syria and Southern France. It is also cultivated in England, Morocco, Russia and the USA.

Clary sage has been perceived both as a weaker version of its close relative, sage (S. officinalis), and as a significant herb in its own right. Since the seeds were once commonly used to treat eye problems, it was also known as "clear eye".

FUNCTION                              : Clary Sage is an excellent pick-me-up for the nerves. It calms anxiety and panicky states and promotes a feeling of well being. It is a good hormone balancer and is therefore a good tonic for the womb. It strengthens the body defense system and aids with convalescence.

Parsley is a bitter, aromatic, and diuretic herb that relaxes spasms, reduces inflammation and clears toxins. It is also said to inhibit tumor-cell growth and stimulates the digestion and uterus.

Parsley is also used internally for menstrual complaints and edema.

It is helpful for water retention, stimulating the kidneys as well as helping with menopausal problems.

It helps to cleanse the blood and boosts circulation and eases muscle spasms.

On the skin, it helps clear bruises, is a tonic to the scalp and is said to help with head lice.

It contains flavonoids (including apiin), traces of furanocoumarins (bergapten, oxypeucedanin, psoralen). The essential oil contains phenylpropanoids apiol, myristicin and allyltetramethoxybenzol

Description: Parsley is a biennial - or short-lived - perennial herb that can grow up to 70cm high. It has bright green foliage that is wrinkled in appearance and small greenish-yellow flowers that produce small brown seeds.

Aromatic Scent: Parsley essential oil does not smell at all like the culinary herb. It has a sweet, warm spicy scent. It is herbaceous and green in tone.
